Our (Full) Story

Keta Keta started in 2003 as a Tel Aviv garage operation with a love for animals and the belief that video entertainment will one day become “mainstream” on the Internet. The multi-disciplined team comprised creative writers, a producer and a director from the U.S., Israel, and France. The team shared the belief that by adhering to certain elementary creative principles, preconceived ideas can be systematically turned into viral ads that will spread much like a rumor, catchy lyrics or a good joke.

One of the founders chose the direction of academic studies in quest of understanding what makes an ad viral. His findings were later published in two of the first academic papers on the topic of viral advertising. The rest of the team chose to bridge between art and science by following their passion to create.

After intense brainstorming for a sure-fire concept, Keta Keta produced its first clip called Make Love, Not Terror. The self-promotional clip was a phenomenal success at a time when video was a rare commodity on the Internet. It quickly crossed all territorial boundaries, was exhibited in festivals across 60 cities worldwide, and was broadcasted in numerous television networks from Brazil to China, eventually reaching over 60 million web views from over 100 countries. The clip’s extensive exposure generated thousands of subscribed fans that promoted the company’s content in years to come.

The field of viral advertising has gone a long way since the 2002. Streaming technology and hundreds of user-generated content (UGC) sites and social networks, such as Youtube and Facebook, have since emerged to extend the platform that was once confined to email file forwarding.
